How to Personalize AI Using Past Interactions

You need a working customer memory system that stores interaction summaries, customer preferences, and account context. The personalization techniques in this guide depend on having at least three to five stored memories per customer, covering their technical background, communication preferences, and recent interaction history. Step-by-Step Personalization
Every response should be informed by what the system knows about the customer. Before generating any reply, query the memory system with the customer's current message to retrieve relevant context. Structure the retrieved memories into categories that directly inform how the response should be shaped.

The system should learn this from the first interaction and apply it in all subsequent ones, while remaining ready to adjust if the signals change.
Some customers want brief, direct answers. Others want thorough explanations with context. Measuring Personalization Quality
Track three metrics to verify that personalization is working. First, measure how often customers provide information the system should already have, which indicates a personalization failure. Second, compare CSAT scores between personalized interactions (where the system had memory context) and non-personalized interactions (new customers or customers who opted out of memory). Third, track the rate of explicit positive feedback, moments where customers say things like "thanks for remembering" or "glad I did not have to explain that again."
